THE FIRST TRUTH

back to home

The first truth of awakening to the reality of the internet is this: The internet is essentially dissatisfying.

The internet does not satisfy. It does not make you complete. It does not provide lasting enjoyment. It does not provide you with a permanent haven of peace. There is nothing on the internet that can satisfy you, nothing you can hold, nothing you can keep, nothing that will make you whole. Everything within or comprising the internet is impermanent, empty of self, and incapable of satisfying. Connecting, querying, sorting through results, scrolling pages, clicking on content, reading content, watching content, becoming bored with content--all of these activities have fundamental dissatisfaction at their core.

Stop to notice this first truth. If you look, you can feel it in your body and mind with every moment you engage with the internet: Something is not complete. Something is unsettled, unsatisfied.

This takes us to the next truth.
